The skull of a large Devonian sarcopterygian fish. This was a highly technical prep job requiring lots of consolidation due to the soft crumbly bone and hard matrix.

Sarcopterygians are the group of fish known as lobe-finned fish as their fins are more fleshy than the ray-like fins of most fish in our seas today. These fish sit at the base of the branch leading towards the tetrapods.
