This Fish Hash Layer was found in the Balfour Formation of the Beaufort Group in South Africa.
The sediments of this area are fluvial in origin being deposited by meandering rivers across a flood plain leading to fish being found in these deposits which are famous for their terrestrial reptile and synapsid fauna.
